HOLIDAY HEALTH AND SAFETY TIPS

http://www.cdc.gov/family/holiday/

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning."

(Journal of School Nursing, Aug. '99)

The vision of the School Health Services is to promote an optimal level of wellness, recognizing that the health status of students impacts the quality of their education. This is accomplished through the ongoing appraisal, promotion and protection of student health.

Appraisal: Health assessment, evaluations and screening

Promotion: Health instruction, advocating for student health, community education

Protection: Immunization enforcement, tracking communicable diseases, promoting safety
