When Should I Keep My Child Home?

School Health Recommendations

Upon recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health, and for the optimal health of your child and others, you should not send your child to school if any of the following conditions or symptoms exist or were present in the last 24 hours:
  • A temperature of 100 degrees F or more. Your child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
  • Diagnosed with a bacterial infection like strep throat. Your child may return to school after taking prescribed antibiotics for 24 hours.
  • Thick mucus or pus draining from the eye or “pink eye.” Your child can attend school 24 hours after the start of treatment.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea during the previous evening or night. Your child may return to school if they have not vomited or had diarrhea in the past 24 hours.
  • Has an undiagnosed rash. Your child may return to school after being evaluated and cleared by a physician to return to school.
